An incredible 8 days biking journey in the mystical kingdom of the Thunder Dragon is an escape into the rich natural environment of Bhutan that lies mostly in undisturbed and pristine form. The places included in this tour are Paro, Haa, Thimphu and Punakha valley and these regions possesses a real charm. Along with your ride, the tour also offers numerous opportunities for optional day hikes some are of easy reach or few hours walk. You will be led through the countryside, meet the local people and learn about their culture, history and traditions. Adventure travelers will not be disappointed by the rugged mountain terrain as you paddle you pads over 3000 meters above sea level but it is always satisfying letting you experience the amazing rich natural landscape, breathtaking view and an unforgettable experience in an unspoiled and unexplored environment.

What to Expect: Bhutan Mountain biking takes you far off the usual tourist path, is one of the cycling epic journey. Over the course of your ride your experience occasionally have to tide up with uphill paddling and then abruptly ride downhill, taking you from changing scenery of verdant forests of flower-filled valleys, through alpine forest, open valleys, along the rivers and lakes, lush meadows, rich staircase landscapes, with towering mountain peaks.  Apart from this rich natural beauty, you will also have an insight into the rich traditional culture of Bhutan. Visiting the traditional villages and ancient monasteries and temples are other highlight of mountain rides.

Bike Recommended: We recommend, if possible bringing your own choices mountain bikes that you’re familiar with. Make sure if you are planning to bring your own mountain bike, it should at list have the front suspension, suitable for sustained climbs while crossing several high altitude and ridges. A suitable tire for hard packed, off road conditions is must. Make sure that your bike is in excellent running condition before you venture off to Bhutan. Make sure that you have a good practice several times before departure, just to ensure that your bike is working well.   • On-Road Mountain Biking: Our on-road mountain biking tour is grades as basic in term of difficulty and it is design especially for the beginners and for wanderlust family who plan to add mountain biking to their Bhutan holiday.
  • Off-Road Mountain Biking: Our challenging off-road mountain biking tour is graded difficult to very difficult, where riders are required to have adequate level of fitness and stamina and be experienced enough in the art of mountain biking. (Strictly recommended for professional riders)
  • Downhill Mountain Biking: Our challenging downhill mountain biking is recommended for those who has enough experience in the art of downhill mountain riding. The ride takes you varying from moderate to extreme downhill crossing several high altitude ridges. (Strictly recommended for professional riders)

At your arrival at Paro International Airport and completing your custom formalities, you will then met by our local representative at the exit door and transfer you to your hotel for short refreshment. After the refreshment our local representative will give you some important guidelines on road condition and traffic rules. After assembling your bike and following your local leader you can spend half day biking in Paro valley, beginning with Paro Ta Dzong, Paro Dzong and Jangsa Dumtse Lhakhang that lies just outside of the town.

Today you will leave Paro in the morning on your bike to Haa valley following Chelela Pass. In the morning hour it is quite an uphill task and takes around 40km till you reach the top. If you are not fit for uphill ride choose to drive. The pass lies at a cool crisp 3720m and your route takes you through a spectacular lovely forest of pine, oak and rhododendrons that a ablaze with red and pink blooms in April and May. The top is one of the highest motor roads in Bhutan and it’s unlike any other pass that offers a scenic valley view of both Paro and Haa valley. Importantly, if the weather is clear one can view the sacred Mt. Jomolari and Jichu Drakey on the northern border of the valley. After the pass it is the entire way downhill ride until you reach Haa Valley.

After your early breakfast in the hotel, leave Haa on your bike following the winding road beside the Haa Chhu River. You can choose half-day or full-day bike. The route offers an impressive view of the valley, traditional settlements and farmhouses. The valley between Thimphu and Haa that has a charming landscape with evergreen forest of pine, oak, rhododendron. The valley is also dotted with scattered settlement with many golden roofed temples dotted on the hilltop. As you near Chundzom the confluence, you will then slowly enter the charming valley of Thimphu. The countryside from Chundzom to Thimphu is less forested than what you have been seeing so far and the valley are narrow except for two sections where it is widen into gentle slope.

The best and more convenient way to transfer your Bhutan tour payment is to wire through bank transaction.  Wild Mountain Adventure will provide the detail of the bank once you are fully conformed to your trip. We also accept credit cards, visa card or other means of transaction, however these form of transaction creates lots of problem both for clients and us as a company. Therefore, the better way is to wire through bank. Once after the arrival of your tour payment to Bhutan, we will send you the copy of the receipt. Your tour payment will remain with Tourism Council of Bhutan until your trip is over. Make sure a full payment should be made in advance along with your flight cost prior 3/4 months in advance to ensure a smooth planning of your trip. After receiving the payment, we will work out for your tour formalities and sent you the necessary copy of your trip including your visa and conformed flight.

Remember, when you transfer your tour payment to Bhutan other than USD, it is common that there will be a small shortfall on receipt of the payment. So make sure that your bank work out your currency equivalent of USD amount while sending.

Travel Insurance - We strongly recommend that you take out a holiday insurance policy. Please ask your travel agent or speak to your own insurance broker.

In a large city and major towns, the quality of every aspect of Bhutan’s hotels and resorts is up to the highest international standards, but in more remote and adventure destinations, the first class hotels and resorts offering the fullest range of facilities do not always exist.

Hot Spring Therapy

We see fewer tourists giving value in discovering the natural hot spring, though it is common among the local Bhutanese people. There are numerous hot spring found in Bhutan and has been used by the Bhutanese people for centuries with a belief that water has miraculous healing power and medicinal properties to cure certain diseases, like arthritis, joint pain, and sinus.  Whatever your travel style may be, we will be happy to arrange 1 or 2 night hot spring program in your itinerary to make you experience great outdoor. 

Rafting Down the Untamed Waterways

Put a twist to your Bhutan adventure by adding one or two hours river rafting and kayaking program for your trip in Bhutan. The untamed fast flowing glacier fed rivers of Bhutan truly offers a kind of experience for those seeking adventure in an unspoiled and unexplored water ways of Bhutan. Horse Riding (day excursion)

When you are in Bumthang, experience a day excursion on going horse riding in the scenic Tang village. We offer three different options of riding suitable for all skill level with ride duration approximately between 4-5 hours with longer ride suitable for more advanced riders.  The horses are small and has weight limit of 100kgs for the excursion. They are in good condition, obedient, well trained and capable of handling the itinerary planned.  Bridles and bits are appropriate with properly fit saddles similar to what we call English and comfortable for the riders. The trails are well maintained making it easier and enjoyable for the rider to experience and explore the hidden side of the kingdom.

Hot Stone Bath

Besides hot spring there are traditional hot stone bath which is of heating up stones and then soaking in the water that is in turn heated by the stones. This creative hot stone bath method has been an important part of Bhutanese family life and traditional medicine for centuries. It is commonly used by Bhutanese people, believing that the heat of the water or the mineral released from the rock and the local herb all come together to producing medicinal benefits or cure certain diseases like joint pains, hypertension, stomach disorders and arthritis. 

A game of Archery

Archery plays a significant role in the everyday life of the Bhutanese people. The game is played differently from the international game and is seen as a way of celebration, social gathering, communication and developing relationship with people. Archery tournament and competitions are held throughout the country amongst the people, departments, and villages and between regional districts and is played during religious and public holidays. It is a love that is shared by all Bhutanese people that has been manifested in the local lore, art, myths, legends and deities. The targets are placed at long distance as 140 meters where archer shoots one pair of arrow each way.
